Gardening Equipment Hire in Evanston — Soil & Garden
Soil & Ground Conditions
Heavy clay loam over limestone, transitioning to red-brown earths closer to the Gawler River. Soils are highly reactive — they expand significantly when wet and shrink during dry summers, causing ground movement that affects footings, paving, and retaining walls. Virginia and Angle Vale areas include rich alluvial market-garden soils along the river flats.
Garden Equipment Notes
The clay loam in Evanston determines the best approach. Water clay soil the day before using a rotary hoe for easier tilling. Aerate lawns in spring and autumn when soil is moist but not waterlogged.
