Hiring & Bookings

What do I need before operating hired equipment?

Stanford Hire provides an operating handover and control briefing. The hirer is responsible for making sure the operator is competent and for meeting any site, workplace or task-specific requirements that apply to the job.

How do I book equipment?

Browse the equipment and send a booking enquiry with your name, machine, date, duration and pickup or delivery address. On a phone the site opens a pre-filled text message; on a computer it sends the enquiry online. Stanford Hire then confirms availability by text or phone.

Is there a minimum hire period?

We offer 4-hour, 5-hour or full-day rates depending on the item, with multi-day and weekly hire also available. Use the assistant for a quick answer, then send the structured Booking Enquiry for your dates.

What is the cancellation policy?

We understand plans change — just give us as much notice as possible. If equipment is already loaded or on the truck, a small call-out fee may apply.

Do you offer weekend hire?

Yes — we hire 7 days a week. Saturday and Sunday bookings are very popular, so book early where possible.

Delivery & Pickup

Where do you deliver?

We deliver across 120+ suburbs in Adelaide North from our Two Wells depot, including Angle Vale, Virginia, Gawler, Elizabeth, Salisbury, Munno Para, Craigmore, Blakeview, Gawler East, Lewiston and Riverlea Park. Enter the full street address in the assistant or Booking Enquiry for the exact delivery and collection estimate.

How much does delivery cost?

Delivery is calculated from our Two Wells base using driving time: $4 per driving minute each way, with a minimum of $50 each way. Enter your full address in the booking enquiry to see the current estimate before you send it.

Can I pick up the equipment myself?

Customer pickup is available for selected equipment only where the transport setup is approved and correctly rated. Stanford Hire plant trailers are retained for our own equipment transport and are not hired separately. Some larger equipment, including the 3.5T E32, is delivery-only.

What time will the machine arrive?

We agree on a delivery window when you book. Our team is generally on the road from 6:30am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday.

What happens on delivery day?

Our team delivers the machine, unloads it, walks you through all controls, safety tips and best operating practices, and answers any questions before leaving you to work.

Equipment & Attachments

What excavator sizes do you have?

Our fleet includes 1T micro excavators ($220/day), 1.7T compact excavators ($220/day), 2T excavators ($250/day) and 3.5T excavators ($350/day). The right size depends on access width and the type of job.

Do you hire attachments separately?

Yes — auger drives, sleeper grabs, levelling bars, post hole digger bits, scarifiers, aerators and more are available as add-ons to your machine hire.

Can I hire a tipper truck and excavator together?

Yes — this is one of our most popular combinations. Dig with the excavator, load spoil into the tipper, and haul away. Bundled from $415/day.

What attachments come with the excavator?

Each excavator comes with standard buckets. Additional attachments like auger drives ($100/day), sleeper grabs ($55/day), and various auger bits ($35/day) can be added to your booking.

Is the equipment serviced and maintained?

Yes — our entire fleet is regularly serviced and inspected before every hire. We take pride in reliable gear that does not let you down on the job.

Pricing & Payment

How much does excavator hire cost?

The 1T and 1.7T excavators are $220/day, the 2T is $250/day and the 3.5T is $350/day. Delivery and optional attachments are shown separately where applicable.

Is there a security deposit?

Yes — a $100 deposit applies. It is held for fuel and cleanliness and is not a damage waiver. Any applicable fuel or cleaning charges may be deducted when the machine is returned.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept card payments (in person), bank transfer, and cash. Payment is collected at the time of hire.

Are there any hidden fees?

The booking enquiry shows the hire estimate and applicable delivery charges before you send it. Optional attachments are extra, a $100 fuel/cleanliness deposit applies, and machine hours over 10 per 24-hour day are charged at $25/hr.

Do you offer long-term hire rates?

Yes — weekly and ongoing hire rates are available. Use the assistant to identify the machine first, then send the dates and job details through the Booking Enquiry for a custom quote.

About Stanford Hire

Who runs Stanford Hire?

Stanford Hire is a family-run equipment hire business based in Two Wells, South Australia. You deal directly with the Stanford Hire team for equipment, delivery and handover.

How long have you been in business?

We have been hiring equipment across Adelaide North for several years, building a reputation for reliable gear, fair prices and friendly service.

Are you insured?

Yes — we carry comprehensive insurance on all equipment. We also recommend customers confirm their own coverage for site works.

What kind of jobs do your machines suit?

Our equipment is ideal for landscaping, trenching, post holes, site levelling, retaining wall preparation, driveway prep and general earthmoving around residential and small commercial sites.

Do you supply fuel?

All machines are delivered with a full tank of diesel. Top-ups during your hire can be done at any service station — the machines take standard diesel.

Choosing the Right Machine

What size excavator do I need for retaining walls?

For retaining walls up to 1m high, the 1.7T mini excavator ($220/day) is usually sufficient. For larger walls or site cuts involving significant earthmoving, the 3.5T Bobcat E32 ($350/day) will save you considerable time with its larger bucket and deeper dig depth.

How deep can a mini excavator dig?

Our 1.7T Kubota U17-3 digs to 2.3m and the 3.5T Bobcat E32 digs to 2.7m+. For most residential footings and plumbing trenches, 2.3m is more than enough.

What is the difference between an excavator and a skid steer?

An excavator digs below ground level — trenches, footings, stumps. A skid steer (bobcat) works at surface level — moving material, loading trucks, levelling ground. For full site prep, hire both.

Can a mini excavator fit through a standard gate?

Our 1T and 1.7T excavators are under 1m wide and fit through standard residential gates. The 3.5T is 1.55m wide and needs a double gate or wider access.

What machine is best for clearing rubbish and green waste?

The Bobcat S70 skid steer or MT100 mini loader are ideal for rubbish removal and site clean-ups — they can load the tipper truck quickly. Pair with our tipper for a complete dig-and-dump solution.

On-Site & Safety

What happens if the machine breaks down during my hire?

Call our team immediately on 0405 227 969. We will troubleshoot over the phone, and if the issue can't be resolved, we'll arrange a replacement machine or refund the affected hire period. Our fleet is serviced before every hire, so breakdowns are rare.

Can I operate an excavator on a slope?

Mini excavators can operate on suitable gentle slopes, but steep or unstable slopes are dangerous. The machine needs a stable, level working platform. Use the assistant for general machine guidance, but get a competent site assessment where stability is uncertain.

Do you provide operating instructions?

Yes — our team walks every customer through the controls, safety features and best operating practices on delivery. You'll be confident before we leave the site. We also provide downloadable PDF guides for each machine.

Can I hire equipment for commercial jobs?

Absolutely. We hire to landscapers, builders, plumbers, electricians, concreters, fencing contractors and civil teams across Adelaide North. Multi-day and weekly rates are available for ongoing commercial work.

Can I extend my hire period?

Yes — just call our team as early as possible. Extensions are subject to availability (the next customer may have the machine booked). We'll always do our best to accommodate extensions.

Still have a question?

The Stanford Hire Assistant can answer equipment, access, pricing and delivery questions immediately.
